Judy Greer has been your on-screen BFF for years.
In fact, she’s made an entire career out of it. The trusted and quirky sidekick from 27 Dresses, The Wedding Planner, 13 Going On 30, and so many other film and television series has been one of my favorite actresses for years. I even loved her in the short running 2008 sitcom, Miss Guided, a single-camera comedy centered on a woman (Greer) who returns to her high school alma mater to become a guidance counselor. She was also totally relatable in Married, FX’s comedy about two best friends trying to salvage their marriage (it also stars the talented Brett Gelman and Jenny Slate). Her stellar performance as Kitty Sanchez in Arrested Development can’t be beat while her voiceover work on Archer, American Dad!, BoJack Horseman, Family Guy, and Robot Chicken prove that she’s just as big a force in the animated world. Just glancing at her IMDB credits for 2018, she has eight projects in post production (including starring in the reboot of Halloween). This talented actress always makes me smile when she comes on screen and even in print. She isn’t afraid to make fun of herself in her 2014 book of essays called I Don’t Know What You Know Me From: Confessions of a Co-Star.
That’s why I was thrilled to learn that she had time to sit down with POTR for a quick Q&A about working with LACTAID® on its “No More #DairyEnvy” campaign. As someone whose body doesn’t love lactose either, I can definitely appreciate this. I’m a big fan of this product – if you remember last year I got to make sundaes with Christina Tosi using the delicious ice cream treats she created exclusively for LACTAID®. So, while I devoured a quart of LACTAID® cookies & cream ice cream from the comfort of my couch, I assume Judy was most likely on set somewhere answering my questions via email. Thanks Judy! We chatted about everything from how she makes her favorite holiday meals using LACTAID® to the three beauty products she can’t live without. Oh yeah, as well as what it’s like to work with my #girlboss crush, Allison Janney.
What are some of your favorite lactose-free holiday treats or recipes?
I’m dairy sensitive due to lactose but I love creamy foods like corn chowder, mashed potatoes and holiday casseroles. Cooking with LACTAID ® Milk has allowed me to enjoy my holiday favorites again. I love it because I get the delicious taste and creaminess of 100% real dairy – just without the lactose, so I no longer have to suffer the consequences!
I read that you’re a big knitter. Are you working on anything special for the holidays?
I just finished 2 baby blankets, and am finishing a third! I guess everyone is having a baby for Christmas! I am excited to start a new project though, I want to make a cozy Grandpa Cardigan.
You’re currently one of the stars of Archer. What’s it like doing voiceover work? Easier or harder than being in front of the camera?
Easier easier easier!!!
So, Is Jason Bateman as nice as he seems?
100 times yes!! I have loved him since our first day together on Arrested Development. He made me laugh so hard, but also made me feel really welcome, and a part of the family. I’ve recently been watching him on Ozark, and have been totally blown away by him on that show. As an actor and a director. I hope he directs me some day!
I’m a big fan of the show Casual on Hulu. (Michaela Watkins was my improv teacher at The Groundlings) What’s it like to work for a streaming network?
A little different than a network show, but similar to a cable show. There’s not as many cooks in the kitchen, at least that’s the feeling on set. I feels like a very intimate working environment, which I love. Also, I love Micheala too!! She’s beautiful and funny and so smart. The whole package!
What’s the first thing you do when you’re done with a project?
Go on a date with my husband! I get very absorbed in my work and am not always the best company when I’m knee deep in a project.
Your three must-have beauty products?
What’s your favorite thing to do in NYC?
You worked with Allison Janney on A Happening of Monumental Proportions. As someone who is obsessed with CJ Cregg, what was it like to work with her?
Allison is everything you want her to be! She’s smart and hilarious, always quick to laugh or make you laugh. And she’s so charismatic!! She can make you feel like you’re the most interesting, funny person in the room, even though SHE ALWAYS IS!!
What advice would you give yourself 20 years ago?
Learn a language. I’d be fluent by now!!
