Get That Markle Sparkle: Royal Wedding Make Up & More
In just a few short days, Meghan Markle will marry Prince Harry in an elaborate ceremony at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Granted, it may not be fit for a technical King but it's going to come bloody close. The New York Times put together a fun list of FAQ's about the big day and one of the stats that stood out the most to me was the cost of security at the wedding. It will most likely be close to what Prince William and Kate Middleton spent (a cool $32 mil), which was paid for by British taxpayers. Their entire wedding cost $34 million, which left a cool two mill for the rest of the wedding decorations and such. Apparently the only thing the bride has to pay for is the dress.
I just keep thinking about Meghan and how she must be feeling (now and on the wedding day). It's such a big deal! She's changed her profession, moved to another country, converted to a different religion (and will become a citizen of the UK), and left all that she knows back in America. Not only that, but she'll have to obey the rules of the monarchy for the rest of her life. Not to mention the photos from this weekend will literally go into history books. Phew! Well, from what I can tell, Ms. Markle seems to have a very good head on her shoulders. Plus, as someone who's been in the public eye and worked with lots of charitable causes, she handles the pressure very well. And can you imagine all the good she'll get to do on a huge platform now? That's probably the best part. She seems to have fit in quite nicely already and it's only been a few months since the entire world found out about this unlikely couple. I'm just so dang excited for both Harry and Meghan! I even got my friend to pick me up some royal wedding memorabilia from London so watch out for those on my IG stories - I'm sure I'll be using them at the 7am Royal Wedding Viewing Brunch I'm attending at The Chester in NYC.
Many are placing bets on which lucky designer will dress Meghan on her big day. Rumors are swirling that she will wear two dresses - one more formal one for the church ceremony and another one for the evening reception at Frogmore House hosted by Prince Charles (where the couple took their lovely engagement photos). The most likely designers at this point appears to be Ralph & Russo, the duo behind Markle's stunning dresses in her official engagement photos. Others on the shortlist are rumored to be Stewart Parvin, the Belgravia-based bridal designer who also designs for the Queen and Erdem, the Canadian designer who is a favorite of the Duchess of Cambridge.
And if you're a beauty junkie like me, you just can't wait to find out what Meghan's wedding day makeup will look like, right? Well, hold onto that thought because now you can start shopping like this soon-to-be royal! Meghan has great style and I have a feeling her look will be simple and classic with a bit of American sass (like her infamous messy bun!). I've always wondered what this CA native carries in her makeup bag so I did some digging. Not only did I come across her favorite products but I also discovered a few items inspired by past and upcoming royal nuptials. Next goal? Find out how to secretly become her BFF. But for now, here's the list:
Inspired by the mystique and beauty of the United Kingdom's iconic Crown Jewels this bronzed opal shade is infused with shimmering gold pearl, something we can totally see on the soon to be Rachel Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor. This limited-edition shade also features a crown press and collector's edition packaging so it's definitely stamped with approval.
Luminous Silk Foundation ($64)
A good foundation is the basis of all good makeup. Make sure to moisturize first before applying any kind of foundation or concealer as it will settle into your skin better. Yes, this one is a bit more expensive but I hear customers swear by it and apparently Meghan does, too. This lightweight formula leaves the skin looking silky smooth and it doesn't completely cover up those freckles (which is Meghan Markle approved).
In the past, Meghan has raved about her love for the Touche Eclat Face Highlighter Pen by YSL. This little wand of light instantly brightens, smooths, and perfects your complexion with a natural, luminous finish. It's small enough to throw into your purse and it's easy to apply on-the-go. We have a feeling this favorite find will go with Meghan on her honeymoon!
nars blush in orgasm ($30)
This NARS staple has been around for years and there's a reason why - it's the perfect pink blush. Because it's highly pigmented, a little goes a long way. It also comes in a nice lipstick, highlighter, and gloss. Plus, it just gives your cheeks that nice flush like you've just been on a brisk walk. (Because, let's be honest, I really just look gross after a short run :))
Another rumor that is swirling around is that Bobbi Brown might do the bridal party's makeup. She had the honor of doing Pippa Middleton's make up on Will & Kate's big day back in 2011. Will Meghan take Kate's lead and let Bobbi work her magic? Well, it's been rumored that Meghan will follow in sister-in-law Kate's footsteps, who actually did her own makeup after a lesson with makeup artist Arabella Preston. Wow! I don't know if I could be that brave on my wedding day - I'd definitely leave it up to the professionals (with multiple trials beforehand). Here's Bobbi and Meghan yapping away in the back of an Uber in 2016. They chat about their favorite products as well as how to touch up your makeup from the back of a moving vehicle.
🎩 & 👰🏽
No matter what, I know that Meghan will be one stunning bride walking down that aisle on Saturday. I wish her and Harry the best. Living an entirely new life in a new place with a new family and new rules is A LOT. I just can't wait to see how this beautiful couple grows over the years - will we soon here the pitter patter of little feet? I certainly hope so! So, what are you doing on May 19th to celebrate? Tag your photos on @petronerocks and let me know (I'll probably rewatch the wedding throughout the day - that's how excited I am!). Happy watching and congrats again Meghan & Harry!
