National Tequila Day: 5 Recipes To Know (& Video Tips)
Tequila is a regionally specific distilled beverage made from the blue agave plant, primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, 65 km northwest of Guadalajara, and in the highlands of the central western Mexican state of Jalisco.
And today, July 24th, just happens to be National Tequila Day (a.k.a. this gal's favorite day of the year)! Let's celebrate together by making one of these delicious cocktail creations, courtesy of some of the best bartenders in NYC. Bottoms up!
VIVA Rip Tide
- 2 oz. VIVA XXXII Reposado Tequila
- 1 oz. Fresh Juiced Pineapple
- ½ oz. Fresh Lime Juice
- ½ oz. Agave Syrup (3:1 Agave to Water)
Directions: Place all ingredients into a shaker and give a short “dry” shake. Then, add crushed ice to shaker. Pour ice and cocktail into a highball glass and top with a float of Angostura Bitters and Pineapple Frond.
The Jimadores Paloma
- 2 oz Patrón Reposado
- 3 oz Grapefruit Juice
- 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
- 1 oz Smoke Hibiscus Syrup
- 5 dashes of Peychaud Bitters
- 5 dashes of Angostura Bitters
- Ginger beer to fill
- Pinch of Salt
Add grapefruit, lime, salt and Patrón into shake. Add with ice and shake for 5 seconds. Straing into a Collins glass and fill with ginger beer. Pour Hibiscus Syrup on top and dash Bitters as well. Garnish with a snake Grapefruit peel inside glass.
Davio's Summer Sangria
- 1.5 oz Berry Infused Tequila
- .5 oz Crème De Cassis
- .5 oz Simple Syrup
- .5 lemon Juice
- Top with Pinot Noir
Directions: Combine all ingredients. Shake vigorously and strain into an old fashioned glass. Layer pinot noir on top.

- 2 oz Patrón Extra Anejo*
- 1/2 oz Patrón Aged Orange Liquor*
- 1/4 oz Simple Syrup
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Orange Juice
- 1 teaspoon Lemon Juice
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Combine ingredients in a shaker tin with ice and shake until chilled. Strain and serve up into a chilled Nick & Nora or coupe glass with twist of lemon.
- 2 oz. Peach schnapps
- 2 oz. Tequila Rose
- 2 splashes of cranberry juice
- 1 splash of lemon-lime soda
- Garnish: Lemon twist
1. Pour all ingredients into shaker, shake, and strain into martini glass.
2. Garnish with a lemon twist.
