Pretty Luggage: Makeup Bags & Organizers

I think my first makeup bag was probably a Ziploc.

Fast forward a few decades and I still don't quite know how to pack all of my makeup. I tend to use either one large Vera Bradley Hanging Organizer (which makes me feel like I'm 21) or three small ones like my favorite Pouf bag from Stella & Dot. When I'm home, I store my essentials like foundation, brushes, and moisturizers on a metallic serving tray from Anthropologie (I'm also a fan of picking up mirrored trays at the flea market or antique store). Basically, I'm in the market for a new cosmetic bag (preferably not a Ziploc). Here are a few that are on my short list:

Target is killing it right now in the cosmetic department. I basically want all of their makeup bags (see below). This adorable, floral piece from Sonia Kashuk's latest collection is not only reminiscent of a watercolor painting but it has two removable zip pockets, one large main compartment, and a brush holder. The gold zip enclosure is also a plus, considering I travel with lots of powder-based products.

This patriotic pouch by Twig & Arrow is fun and simple - great for holding basics like lip gloss and touch up powder. There is an interior pocket for your cellphone if you want to use it as a clutch (it's cute enough, right?) and sturdy enough to throw into a larger purse. I love the mini red, white, and blue tassel that hangs from the zipper enclosure. It's easy to add a pop of color with this bag. Available at Target.

If you're going to splurge on a cosmetic bag, grab this boho-chic case by Tory Burch. This new ivory utopia botanical-printed piece is slightly 70's and I love it for that. I feel like I should rock a pair of large gold hoops and bell bottoms. Available at Nordstrom.

I discovered the cousin to my favorite Pouf - The Pouf Slim! Available in this retro black and gold as well as metallic leopard, this bag is perfect for your longer brushes. Definitely love both looks for fall!

When it comes to actually storing your makeup, I'm a big fan of using old mason jars. However, when I came across this retro-looking vanity organizer by Threshold (another one of my favorite brands from Target), I thought this could be a fun alternative. Pop in your face/eye brushes as well as everyday essentials like Q-tips.

O.M.G. Could this hat box be ANY cuter? Designer Joy Choy (if you're not following her on Instagram you're missing out) collaborated with CALPAK on this one and I seriously might have to get it just to pack up my makeup in a pretty box.
