Friend of the Week: Nicholai Joaquin
1. Karaoke Master
2. New York Pops Extraordinaire
3. Disciple of Beyonce
4. The Most Fabulous Person At A Party/Youngest Looking Person At A Party
How do we know each other?
We have a shared love of the private karaoke room.
Where are you from?
I grew up in the suburbs of Hawaii. (Those actually exist!)
What's a day in the life of Nicholai Joaquin like?
I produce concerts for a living. So there are some days when I fall down YouTube spirals in the name of "artistic research". (If either of my bosses is reading this questionnaire, I totally do other stuff during office hours, too.)
After work, you can frequently find me at some sort of performance. At this point, I've given up on trying to organize my Playbills. I basically live among heaps of them, like a theatrical hoarder.
What's your greatest attribute?
Aside from being occasionally mistaken for Bruno Mars? I like to think I can turn any occasion into a celebration.
Favorite thing about living in NYC?
We're at the center of the cultural universe! One day you can see Shakespeare in the Park, and the next day you can see The Mets. (I'm talking about the opera house and the museum; I don't speak baseball.)
one kind of food and drink for the rest of your life. Go!
Food: Thin Mints, as inaptly named as they may be, are the work of a higher power.
Drink: Is there such a thing as a Thin Mint milkshake? If not, I'm patenting one for the purposes of this question.
Favorite celebrity sighting/interaction?
Dwayne Wade once told me he liked the chains I was wearing. My life has gone downhill from there.
What's your signature style?
Funniest moment with me that you can remember?
The. 80's. Subway. Dance Party/Walk-Off. natch.
I don't think you're ready for this jelly.
