Friend of the Week: Michelle Rhein
1. A true Italian mama.
2. Neonatal Nurse Extraordinaire.
3. One hilarious broad.
4. My college roommate, for which I am forever grateful (she has also been known to play a prank or two on those she loves).
How do we know each other?
I think "Go Ags PICNIC DAY 2000" sums it up. "The Pone" and I met on Ryerson 4...the all girls floor of our dorm freshman year. We proceeded to live together for the rest of college. One of the best decisions of my life!
What's a day in the life of Michelle Rhein like?
I reluctantly wake up when it's still dark, head to work at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto. I'm the clinical nurse specialist of the neonatal region (right now I'm covering for another CNS). I work anywhere from 10- 16 hours, grab Leo and Alex from my mom, drive to Burlingame where I get the most fantastic grueling workout at Basecamp Fitness Burlingame, head home where my professional chef/husband has a relish dinner prepared, help with homework, shower, head to bed and do it all over again.
What are your nicknames?
Shelly Belly Boodle, Shelly, Devo and Rheino.
What's your greatest attribute?
Hmmm...that's a hard one. Hard working?
Best part about being a Neonatal Nurse?
Getting to help parents take care of their most precious little rapscalion and getting to see these tiny rascals get stronger and better everyday.
Favorite thing about living in the Bay Area/SF?
The variety but definitely not the traffic!
WHAT'S YOUR SIGNATURE STYLE?
Relaxed comfortable polished or my workout clothes which I am usually in :)
Favorite mommy moment?
Either when Leo puked in my mouth after breastfeeding while I was holding him up trying to make him laugh or anytime I can make them happy and laugh and proud of themselves.
If you could only have one kind of food and drink for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Moscow mule and Gnocchi with pesto.
What's something that most people don't know about you?
That my self esteem, which used to be in the shitter, has actually gotten better since losing my hair (I have alopecia) and that I used to hate change and now not only do I teach it, I actually like it.
Funniest moment with me or a moment that sticks out that you can remember?
Stefania's 21st birthday (pictured above) when she fell into the bushes outside of Bakers Square still makes me laugh OUT loud.
Nibb High O'Doyle rules.
Or when Ashley Powne and I took over your room while you were being an obedient KKG during rush.
First bucket list item that comes to mind?
Staying in one of those over the water glass bottom places in a tropical paradise.
Work hard and be nice to people always. Or kill 'em with kindness.
