Friend of the Week: Kristin Derby
1. Her first name is actually Kristin (not Derby).
2. Can drop it like it's hot.
3. World traveler and adventurous underwriter.
4. Your biggest cheerleader.
HOW DO WE KNOW EACH OTHER?
Hard to pinpoint the exact year we met! Most likely we first met each other playing Bobby Sox softball on the Palo Alto Stationers, but really our friendship blossomed in middle school/high school playing CYSA soccer and all the shenanigans during that time! Wow I don't really even want to count how many years that is.
What's a day in the life of Kristin Derby like?
Living the bay area dream without working in tech. If it is a good day I get up and work out before getting in to the office. I say hi to my chai cart guy and talk about the weather :) Then off to work in downtown San Francisco making the world a better place through insurance one day at a time. End the day with either dinner or drinks with friends or resting on the couch drinking a glass of wine and watching TV.
What are some of your nicknames?
Not sure if it is classified as a nickname if some people don't even know my first name...
- K-Dawg - really my brother only calls me this
What's your greatest attribute?
I would say that my greatest attribute is being a good friend. I hope my friends would say the same. However, one of our friends thought I should say that I can drop it like it's hot and my attribute is my booty ;)
Favorite thing about living in the Bay Area?
You can do anything outdoors all year round. My true love for the Bay Area though is that you can drive to Tahoe in a several hours and be up in the mountains any time of year.
If you could only have one kind of food and drink for the rest of your life, what would it be?
It would have to be burger and wine. However, if I want to live past my next birthday I would say eggs and sparkling water.
What's something that most people don't know about you?
Most people don't know that I have strange knack for remembering outfits for a particular event or day. Usually my own outfit but sometimes for others as well.
What's your signature style?
I would say classic, clean lines, with pops of color through accessories. I keep things forever and hate that my taste is expensive. My motto is buy one quality item that may be expensive and keep it longer than if buying mid range item. I still have items from high school that I wear. Although not that many ;)
Funniest moment with me that you can remember?
Hmm that is tough as there are so many fun memories! Probably the time I packed your suitcase in Vegas and left it with the bell hop hoping you would make our flight that afternoon ;) You came strolling on the plane like a boss! Good times.
First bucket list item that comes to mind?
Hike the W circuit in Torres Del Paine National Park in Chile.
Not sure I have a motto but I found this one:
"Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”
